  5. KLB is Kansmen LittleBrother, an application that monitors
  6. and analyzes Internet traffic on LANs (Local Area Networks).
  7.  
  8. This program will collect statistics of Internet usage by user
  9. and traffic type (Web, FTP, Telnet, etc) and report it in easy 
  10. to view charts or text reports.
  11.  
  12. Evaluation:
  13.     Evaluation versions of LittleBrother will expire 30 days 
  14.     after initial installation. To purchase commercial version 
  15.     of LittleBrother, please contact Kansmen at (408) 263-9881,

  18. System requirements:
  19.     Windows95/98 or Windows NT (version 3.51 or later) and
  20.     Network Interface Card (Ethernet or Token Ring) which supports
  21.     promiscuous mode.
  22.     Workstation must be directly connected to the LAN being
  23.     monitored.

  25.     Minimum hardware: Pentium-90 with 32MB RAM.
  26.     Recommended hardware: Pentium-166 with 32MB RAM.

  28. Starting LittleBrother
  29.     To run LittleBrother, double-click the LittleBrother icon.
  30.     (Windows NT 4.0 users, select LittleBrother from the 
  31.     Start->Programs->LittleBrother menu)
  32.     When you run the program for the first time, it may take a
  33.     few minutes for LittleBrother to display a summary of Internet
  34.     traffic.

  36. LittleBrother components
  37.     Kansmen LittleBrother installation includes the following
  38.     components:

  40.     LittleBrother - the network monitoring and blocking application.
  41.  
  42.     LittleBrother Administrator - a utility contains most of the 
  43.        administrative tools.

  45.     Database Backup Utility - a utility for backing up and restoring
  46.        data collected by LittleBrother.
  47.  
  48.     Category Editor - a utility for editing the categories LittleBrother
  49.        assigns to Internet sites.
  50.  
  51.     Internet Policy Document - a sample policy for Internet use.

  53. Uninstallation
  54.     Double-click the Uninstall icon in the LittleBrother program
  55.     group if you wish to uninstall LittleBrother
  56.     (Windows NT 4.0 users, run Add/Remove Programs from the Control
  57.     Panel and select LittleBrother)

  59. Troubleshooting
  60.     LittleBrother may not operate correctly if your network has
  61.     switching hubs. If you see only your own computer in the
  62.     statistics window, this may be an indication that your LAN uses
  63.     switching hubs. Ask your Network Administrator if you are not sure.
  64.     The online help files contain information on running LittleBrother in
  65.     a switching hub environment.
  66.  
  67.     LittleBrother will put your network adapter in a special mode called
  68.     "promiscuous mode." Some network adapters do not support this mode, and
  69.     others may require a change to the adapter setup. Please contact your
  70.     adapter vendor if you are not certain whether your adapter supports this
  71.     mode.

  73.     Windows NT Remote Access Service acts very much like a network adapter,
  74.     and can sometimes interfere with LittleBrother's auto-detection routines.
  75.     If this service is installed, please check the network settings from the
  76.     LittleBrother Tools->Network menu. If these settings are incorrect, disable
  77.     the Auto Detect and enter the correct settings manually.
  78.  
  79.     The LittleBrother database can be protected with a password for
  80.     data security. If you forget your password, you should take the 
  81.     following steps:
  82.         1 - Exit the LittleBrother application
  83.         2 - Delete the files KLBDBASE.KLB and KLBDBASE.LK1 from your
  84.             LittleBrother directory (usually C:\Kansmen\LB )
  85.         3 - Restart LittleBrother
  86.     All previously collected data will be lost, but a new database
  87.     will be created with no password.
